3D12 Diesel Description
3D12, 3D12A diesel engines are designed for installation on a variety of different types of river and marine vessels as main marine diesels driving screw propellers.
3D12 and 3D12A engines are high-speed, 4-stroke diesels with direct injection. 3D12A and 3KD12N modifications are V engines with 12 cylinders arranged in two banks at 60 degrees. Engines of the 3D12A type are produced with aluminum crankcases, others – only with cast-iron crankcases.
The engines have two-circuit liquid cooling system with separate water-to-water and oil-to-water coolers and thermostatic controls. The sea-water pump is installed in engines to pump water along the bypass duct of the cooling system.
The circuit dry sump lubrication system has under pressure lubrication and an electric pump for pre-start pumping of the system.
3D6 and 3D6S2 diesel engines are equipped with a reverse-reduction gear consisting of a reduction gear and a hydrocontrolled multi-disc clutch used for coupling and uncoupling of the propeller shaft and crankshaft, and for changing the ship propeller rotation. Each diesel is produced in several variants which differ by rotation direction of the reverse-reduction gear output shaft: right-hand (clockwise) and left-hand (counterclockwise) rotating engines (as viewed from the reverse-reduction gear), and by the gear ratio at forward and reverse travel.
On customer request, diesels without a reverse-reduction gear can also be supplied to replace 3D12 and 3D12L engines which reached the end of their service life: -3D12ABr – 310 hp at 1500 rpm, left-hand, crankshaft with cast-iron crankcase, for working with the reverse-reduction gear of Mod.1225-00-5 or Mod.525-01-13 types; -3D12ALBr – 310 hp at 1500 rpm, right-hand, crankshaft with cast-iron crankcase, for working with the reverse-reduction gear of Mod.1225-00-5 or Mod.525-01-13 types.
Note that the reverse-reduction gear reverses the rotation direction of the output shaft (propeller shaft). Diesels can also be equipped with an additional power take-off (PTO) with the power up to 30 hp.
The diesels are started by the electric starter or compressed air. Diesels are equipped with a self-rectifying alternator to charge accumulators, a voltage regulator and a radio noise suppression device.
The functioning of diesels can be controlled and monitored directly from the dashboard located on the engine or from the control board located in the deckhouse.
On customer’s request and for specific types of vessels 3D12A, 3D12-1 and 3D12A-1 engines can be supplied with FK6501 system (diesel functional check device) which in combination with various mechanisms, devices and relays (detectors) ensures the functioning of the warning protection system according to the controlled parameters (overheating of the coolant and oil, oil pressure drop and engine overrun). The following modifications are equipped with this system: 3D12AA, 3D12ALA, 3D12A-1A, 3D12AL-1A, 3D12-1A, 3D12L-1A.
ДMain marine engines 3D6 and 3D6S2 satisfy the requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Russian River Registry.

3D20 diesels are light, small-sized engines of the 6CH15И15 type that are used as main diesels on river or marine boats like "Aist", "Nevka", "Bekas", "Kayra”,”Terier” and some others.
The engines are high-speed, left-hand, 4-stroke diesels with direct injection and without reverse-reduction gear. They are V engines with 6 cylinders arranged in two banks at 120 degrees. 3D23 diesels are equipped with a turbocharger and main crankshaft supports with anti-friction ball bearings.
3D20S2, 3D20AS2 and 3D23 diesels are designed for driving water jet and air propellers (depending on the vessel type). 3D20VS2 and 3D20VS2-1 diesels are equipped with the coaxial planetary reverse-reduction gear with ration 1.67 or 2.2 or 3.0 which is a part of 3D20SR and 3D20BSR aggregates produced at the Bogorodsk Shipbuilding Plant.
The engines have two-circuit liquid cooling system with separate water-to-water and oil-to-water coolers and thermostatic controls. 3D20AS2 diesels are installed on boats whose bottom is made in the form of a water-to-water cooler. So these engines are supplied without a water-to-water cooler and sea-water pump. Other models are equipped with water-to-water coolers.
The circuit dry sump lubrication system has under pressure lubrication and an electric pump for pre-start pumping of the system. All diesels are equipped with water-to-oil coolers and started by the electric starter or compressed air. Diesels are equipped with a DC generator with the power of 1 kW (when operating without additional blow-off) to charge accumulators. It is possible to load the generator up to 5 kW if it is equipped with an autonomous blower fan with the power of not less than 235 m3ph at the air inlet pressure of 150 mm Hg.
Some models are produced with a sea-water pump and additional power takeoff of the power up to 30 hp (with the corresponding lowering at the main take-off flange) with a crankshaft drive (see below).
Depending on the purpose the following models of engines are produced: 3D20S2 — with sea-water pump, without power take-off; 3D20AS2 and 3D23 — without sea-water pump and power take-off; 3D20VS2 - with sea-water pump and power take-off; 3D20VS2-1 - with sea-water pump, without power take-off.
